Tips & Tricks: Successful Sponsorship

Eyes on the goal
Be clear about what you want to achieve from the sponsorship; is it brand awareness, alignment, resources, sales, media exposure or just cash? Whether you need quick results or long-term growth, a strong strategy will get you there.

Find your perfect partner
Sponsorship is not a one-night-stand; is your partner really the one for you? Your perfect match should offer a shared target audience and brand values you are happy to align yourself with.


Think dollars and dates

Be specific: put a dollar-value on the items you offer your partner to demonstrate your value and timeline the milestones of the sponsorship to stay on track.
 

Beware the company you keep
Are you sponsoring alongside big-name or respected companies that will lift your profile by association? If you are being sponsored, who have your supporters already been in bed with – are they seen as genuine or cynical profiteers?
 

Share the love
Be sure to make offers of genuine value when proposing a partnership – you will get more back in return and create a close, lasting relationship. Think outside the square and you may be surprised at how much you can give at no cost to yourself.

Always Ask
When designing your sponsorship offering, always ask what the potential sponsor wants to achieve in the year. You may be able to help them tick off a big goal very easily.
