Whilst the name Zadro is the surname of Managing Director Felicity, its reasons for being used as the company name aren't so obvious.

Felice Zadro came to Australia as a young 15 year old from Sesto al Regina, a small town near Venice in northern Italy. Like many migrants who came to Australia in the 1920s life was hard; especially with no English and little knowledge of this new land. Undeterred, he worked hard with his father to create a home and business so that he could be reunited with his mother and four younger brothers.

Life for Felice was defined by strong beliefs in family, community, connection and integrity. He liked things to be clear, open, and honest, and expected the same from the people around him.

He has been acknowledged by both the Australian and Italian governments for his commitment and timeless volunteering efforts. His achievements include the development of a large social club in  Sydney, establishing the first Italian language school in Australia, overseeing churches and organising multiple community projects.

Hearing her grandfather's stories around the family dinner table had a profound influence on Felicity's own sense of community, justice and the power of communication.

When Felicity established Zadro Communications in 2007 she sought a name that represented the ideals that would guide the direction and decisions of the company. Reflecting on the influence of her recently passed grandfather, and the values he embodied, Felicity felt that his name was the perfect symbol for the business.

"Nonno represented someone who was pivotal in his community, he was well connected, worked for the betterment of his family and region and who against all odds spoke up for what he believed in; whether it was popular or not.

"We used to sit around and argue for hours about the state or the world and how it shoud be; we'd strategise for the country, our region and our family.

Although I carry the name, Zadro to me is really my grandfather's name and all he represents. I hope that our company, which has been built on these guiding principles, will honour his memory and always be inspired by his humble migrant story."
